Classes of Nonimmigrant Visas

I did a little research about non immigrant visa types and was surprised. How many are types are there? I’ll give you some of therm:

A Visa

  • A-1 visa is granted to foreign government , like ambassadors, ministers, diplomats, other foreign government officials, of employees traveling on official business.
  • A-2 visa is granted to immediate family members of such foreign government officials, like spouse, unmarried children of any age who are not members of other household.
  • A-3 visa is granted to close relatives of the principal alien or spouse who are related by blood, marriage, or adoption, who are recognized as dependents by sending government.

B Visa

  • B-1/B-2 visa –   “Visa for temporary visitors for business of pleasure.”
    • B-1 visa is granted to temporary visitors for business.
    • B-2 visa is granted to temporary visitors for pleasure.
    • Mexican citizens are eligible for Border Crossing Cars.

C Visa

  • C-1 visa is a transit visa issued to individuals who are travelling in “immediate and continuous transit through the US enroute to another country.”
  • C-2 visa is issued to diplomats transiting to and from the Headquarters of the United Nations and is limited to vicinity of New York City.

D Visa

  • D visa is issued to a crew member of sea-vessels and international airlines in the USA. Including commercial airline pilots and flight attendants, captain, engineer or deckhand of sea vessel, service staff on a cruise ship and trainee on board a training vessel. Combination of C-1 visa and D visa is required.

E Visa

  • E-1 visa (Treaty Trader) and E-2 (Treaty Investor) visas are issued to citizens of countries that have signed treaties of commerce and navigation with the United States. They are issued to individuals engaged in substantial trade activities in international banking, insurance, transportation, tourism, or communications with significant economic impact in the United States
  • E-3 visa is the variant visa issued only to citizens of Australia
    • E-3D visa is issued to spouse of children of E-3 visa holder
    • E-3R visa is issued to a returning E-3 visa holder.

 

F Visa

  • F-1 visa is issued for foreign full-time students enrolled at accredited US institutions.
  • F-2 visas are for spouses and children of F-1 visa holders.
  • F-3 visas are for “border commuters” who reside in their country of origin while attending school in the United States.
